Research Councils UK

Research Councils UK (RCUK) is a strategic partnership between the seven UK government research councils. RCUK was established in 2002 to enable the councils to work together more effectively to enhance the overall impact and effectiveness of their research, training and innovation activities. RCUK contributes to the delivery of the Government’s objectives for science and innovation. To enable the Councils to communicate more effectively, Oracle Release 12 and Siebel CRM has been phased in over a period of 12-15 months. The Shared Services Centre Ltd and 2 other Research Councils implemented Oracle r12 and Siebel Candidate Relationship Management (CRM) fully supported by a managed programme of consultancy and training provided by iTrain.

Enabling Change

iTrain were initially asked to provide lead solution consultants for Siebel CRM and Oracle eBusiness Suite r12 across Finance and Procurement for the roll out of the Oracle r12 and Siebel CRM based shared services centre and 2 other independent research councils. The Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK) was utilised to capture the council’s Oracle r12/Siebel business process procedures and associated Oracle/Siebel eLearning needs.

The processes were captured from already completed User Acceptance Testing test scripts developed by the relevant company work streams who provided subject matter expert (SME) input alongside the iTrain functional consultancy team. iTrain provided specialist consultancy to support the analysis and design of requirements, build, testing and training delivery across one of the largest world-wide integration projects for Oracle Financials and Siebel CRM. iTrain also worked with the on-site Oracle Consulting team to help develop and deliver integrations between Siebel CRM and Oracle Project Accounting.

iTrain developed the full documentation support suite using captured UPK material to document company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), develop online e-learning, and produce end user manuals. Oracle UPK was installed on individual computers and all UPK files were held in custom made libraries within the company server. This enabled greater access to material for consultants and work stream employees. iTrain consultants have been responsible for the rollout of the application across the full Oracle Financials r12 and Siebel CRM suite and for the ongoing maintenance and development of business support needs across the Research Councils and the Shared Service centre.
