Department for Work and Pensions

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) introduced a new guidance solution – Oracles User Productivity Kit (UPK) – for all staff using the DWP Oracle HR System. This was scheduled to go live on the 3rd August 2009, with roll-out across all of DWP two weeks later.
After developing detailed delivery plans, it has become obvious that one area – Employee and Shared Services, based in Tyne View – required experienced UPK consultants to support their team and assist with UPK development. This was the first time the client has taken full responsibility for the hosting and end to end production of an Oracle r12 eBusiness Suite solution incorporating UPK for training and support.

Enabling Change

iTrain were initially selected by DWP to provide support and assistance to a new in-house project team of 5 employees to aid them in the design, development, and deployment of Oracle’s User Productivity Kit (UPK 3.1.7). The initial UPK requirement was intended to create new on-line e-learning materials that would integrate with Oracle r12 eBusiness applications to enable the assistance and support of new and existing employees during the imminent roll-out of Oracle r12 HR self service, expenses, and OLM applications.

DWP had a tight timeframe to both implement and complete the development of the materials utilising a team with little or no prior knowledge of UPK. DWP was able to utilise iTrain’s experience with UPK development and Oracle r12 Finance and HR/Payroll applications knowledge gained from previous client projects to develop internal skills, mentor the team, and provide best practice guidance as required.  Working as an integral part of the DWP team, iTrain developed a strong reciprocal working relationship ensuring that business and technical issues were fully understood by the DWP team. A late change in the DWP deadline resulted in iTrain providing additional support at short notice to the development work to ensure that the revised milestone was met to the satisfaction of the DWP project roll out team.
